I think the Indians wrongly gave the veteran Paul Byrd the job over young Laffey based on Byrds performance last year.
Laffey came up last August at 20 years old and wasn't rattled a bit. SOLID. The kid outdueled Johan Santana in his second career start.
Laffey was also lights out vs. New York and Boston in the postseason. I saw his game in AAA last week-lights out-no runs-was dominating.
I don't think Laffey was given a fair shake and Byrd was automatically penciled in for a starting job. If Lees regains form (looked AMAZING AGAIN vs. Oakland-a great sign of the young lefts return) and Byrd contunues to bomb-is Byrds spot safe from Laffey taking it over? I think the kid needs to be in the bigs-he showed last year he could pitch with the big boys. Carmona is AMAZING again this year-CC will be the same CC-Westbrook loos real good-and Lee looks outstanding-why not give Laffey his due to round out that rotation? There wouldn't be a weak spot in it.
I totally agree! If they would just put him in the rotation and the Indians lineup starts hitting a little better there going to be unstopable!
