RAM problem when installing a program/game? Uses all my RAM when installing!! What's wrong?
I've never seemed to have this problem before but recently everytime I install a game or a program my RAM jumps up from 600MB being used to 2GB being used (which is all my RAM). It really seems to slow my computer down and gets really annoying. Especially for programs/games that take 30 minutes or longer to install. It seems like installing a game or program would be a CPU dependant task, not a RAM task. Anyway, I go into the task manager to see what is using all the RAM, to see if it is in fact the install program for the game/program I am installing, and there seems to be nothing using the RAM that it tells me is being used. So nothing I can do but wait. Then, after the program/game finishes installing, the RAM being used will decrease like .1% every 30 seconds, and the only way to get it fixed fast is to restart my computer. Then everything is fine with only 600MB of RAM being used again. Anyone know how to fix this, or what the problem is?

Id try removing and reseating your memory sticks. Double check its speed matches that of the motherboard. There are some decent memory testing utilities out there.
If it was one program causing it then Id suspect that particular program. But if all installs are acting the same way Id suspect memory that is bad or isnt seated good (clean the contacts too with a eraser), or the OS could be corrupt. Run a defrag and scandisk. Disable your virus software too during the install.
