MLB Tickets - Dice-K Leads Potential Comeback Stories in 2010
Everybody loves a good comeback and this year, as with every year in the big leagues, there are always a few players who come back to re-emerge on the scene. Players like Chris Carpenter and Mike Lowell are some of the players in the past few years who have returned to prominence after many left them for dead. Here are the top players to look out for in 2010.
5. Carlos Beltran, New York Mets. It doesn't seem like it was that long ago that Beltran was one of the very top players in the entire league. After a down year in his first season with the Mets, Beltran came on strong from 2006-2008, hitting the ball out of the ballpark and playing great center field as well. In 2009, after a red-hot start, Beltran suffered a serious knee injury that cut his promising season short. As he looks to come back in May of this season, the Mets will once again need him to be a catalyst to get them back on track in a very tough division.
4. Milton Bradley, Seattle Mariners. Bradley was nothing short of a disaster in Chicago last season with the Cubs. Batting in the middle of the Cubs lineup, Bradley hit just .257 and belted only 12 homeruns, which severely limited the Cubs' overall potential to score runs. Bradley has always had a volatile personality but plenty of talent and Mariners fans are hoping that a change of scenery will do him good. With Ichiro Suzuki and Chone Figgins at the top of the lineup for Seattle, there will be plenty of runs for Bradley to drive in. If he can keep his head on straight, he should be able to put together a nice season for a team that expects to be fighting for the division lead deep into the season.
3. Daisuke Matsuzaka, Boston Red Sox. Amidst rumors that his supposed rubber arm had finally begun to wear down, Matsuzaka enters a 2010 season with the lowest expectations he has had since coming to the Red Sox from Japan a few years back. After having a decent year his first season with the club, Matsuzaka burst onto the scene in 2008, posting an 18-3 record with a 2.90 ERA, placing him in Cy Young consideration. But a series of nagging injuries have hampered him last season and in the offseason, making many fans completely lose faith that he still can be the dominant starter that he showed he was capable of in 2008. With low expectations this year, Dice-K will pitch towards the bottom of the rotation for the Sox and is in great position to re-ignite his career and help sell <a href="http://www.stubhub.com/mlb-tickets/">MLB tickets</a>.
2. Lance Berkman, Houston Astros. When one is to talk about the top power hitters in the game, few people are likely to mention Lance Berkman alongside guys like Albert Pujols, Alex Rodriguez and Ryan Howard. Just a couple seasons ago, however, Berkman was one of the very best. In 2006, Berkman knocked 45 balls out of the ballpark and drove in 136 runs while batting .315 but was slowed by a myriad of injuries thereafter. Battling various ailments last season, Berkman still hit .274 and posted a very solid on-base percentage of .399, though his power numbers dropped substantially. Though Berkman started the year again on the DL, he is scheduled to return to the Astros' starting lineup very shortly and it might not take long for baseball fans to remember how good he truly is.
1. Jake Peavy, Chicago White Sox. For the San Diego Padres, Jake Peavy was one of the best pitchers in the game just a few years ago. From 2004 to 2008, Peavy posted an ERA below 3.00 four out of the five seasons and took down the Cy Young Award in 2007. Peavy dealt with injuries in 2008 and 2009, however, and was promptly shipped to Chicago near the deadline last season. Still only 28, Peavy is focused and looks to reclaim his position as one of the top pitchers in the league.
Best of the rest: Javier Vasquez is in great position to have a big year in New York with the Yankees after having a great season a year ago with the Braves. Ben Sheets was an under-the-radar pickup by the Oakland A's recently and still has plenty of talent to be a big-time major league pitcher. Vladimir Guerrero also got off to a red-hot start with his new club, the Texas Rangers, and it will be interesting to see how much he has left in the tank.
