Why wont my computer recognize my ram?
I have a gateway gt5662. it was blue screening three times a day. i asked around and someone said the reason could be that there was a problem with my ram. i took the sticks out and only inserted one. the computer booted up fine. i later tried putting the other memory back into it but it only recognizes 1 out of the 3 gigs of memory that are actually in there.
How many slots are there?
If there are (say) 4 - it is possible that it only recognises patterns (so 1 and 3) If you have one chip in 1 and the others in 2 and 4 - it will only see the one in 1 as it does not have a corresponding one opposite and it then seeks no further.
Or of course it could be that your memory is naff. Try moving the chip into different slots.
Or do you need to set the BIOS on that computer to recognise more than the original RAM maybe?
