"Shoeless" Joe. I am a huge sports fan! All sports, im particularly interested in the history of sports.?
My question is, just how good was Shoeless Joe Jackson? If his career wouldn't of been cut short where would he of ended up among the legends?
He played 10 full seasons, from the age of 22 to 31 and produced (1911-1920):
.356 AVG, 56 HR, 307 2B, 168 3B, 202 SB, 785 RBI, 873 R, .423 OBP, .517 SLG
If he would've played 10 more full seasons (until the age of 41), I feel his batting average would've dropped somewhat over that span, and using the averages above, in conjunction withe the fact that the White Sox were at or near the bottom of the American League standings throughout the 1920's, I estimate his final career numbers may have turned out like this:
.340 AVG, 137 HR, 596 2B, 254 3B, 263 SB, 1395 RBI, 1602 R, .401 OBP, .486 SLG, 3248 H, 9550 AB
Numbers like those would've made Shoeless Joe a sure-fire H.O.Famer, and statistically comparable to someone like Honus Wagner, minus a several hundred RBI and SB.
