Does Daisuke Matsuzaka's performance today hurt his ROY standing?
A lot of people threw his name around in Cy Young and ROY discussions but I never saw it. Does this blow his chances? Here are the escalators if he does finish in a certain bracket for Cy Young voting:
In 2009 and 2010, Matsuzaka's base salary can increase to $10 million if:
• He finishes first in AL Cy Young voting in 2007 or 2008, or:
• He finishes in the top three in AL Cy Young voting in both 2007 and 2008, or:
• He finishes first in the AL MVP voting in 2007 or 2008, or:
• He finishes in the top five in AL MVP voting in 2007 and 2008.
He is tremendously overrated for someone with so much experience and such an expensive pay check. He should be shutting every team down more than once, and certainly NEVER getting rocked by a team like the Devil Rays.
My beef is that he doesn't deserve the ROY he has had a pretty extensive career in Japan and has much more experience than guys like Phil Hughes, Jon Lester and Fausto Carmona. Japanese players with 3+ years of experience there shouldn't qualify for the ROY award.
