How To Become A Phone Prospecting Rockstar - 6 Simple Things You Must Change To Get Results
Most people are not comfortable getting on the phone and prospecting to grow their business. Unfortunately, it's pretty much a skill that you'll have to get comfortable with if you want to experience massive success with your business. Yes, a lot of our processes are automated these days, but people still join business because of people. They'll usually want to at least have a brief phone conversation to find out if you are a real person.
Remember they reached out to you and responded to your advertising. There is a word that is used in the industry called "posture". Posture does not mean sitting up straight, it means "relaxed confidence" - knowing that you have the goose that laid the golden egg. Be firm but kind. They need you, you do not need them, you're in control and have the prize they're looking for.
Here is exactly what you need to know about becoming a Rockstar Phone Prospector:
1.) Your attitude - If you're not in a good place mentally or emotionally, don't make the calls right then. Do something that will uplift your attitude and then come back to the phone. If you're in a doubtful or bad mood, that will come through on the phone no matter how much you attempt to hide it. Calling when you're not on top of your game is a complete waste of time. Studies have been done to show that when people are making decisions based off of what you say, here is how the ratios break down: 7% the words you say - 38% tonality - 55% how you feel - so as you can see how you feel is incredibly important.
2.) Body language - In most cases, you'll have a more energetic conversation if you've just had a refreshing drink and are up and walking around or at least stading. If it's nice out an outdoor deck or patio is my favorite place to make calls, always standing up. Lastly, people can 'feel" through your voice if you are smiling or not. It sounds funny and stupid but believe me it's true. In the beginning, if you have to do this to make it a habit, make calls in front of a mirror until smiling is second nature.
3.) Voice and Tonality - Speak slowly and clearly, be un-emotional. Don't say please. Don't thank them at the end, they should be thanking you. Say "You're Welcome" at the end.
4.) Mindset - Realize you are not a sales person, you are a business developer. In most home business systems, there is a process in place to do the selling for you, and you should not need to personally explain anything. Your purpose is to show that you are their sponsor should they decide to get started, you are a real person, you are there to help them, and that you are relaxed and confident and don't really 'need' them to continue to be successful.
5.) Be yourself - Don't try to be the millionaire upline, Donald Trump or anyone else. Be genuine, be real, be you.
6.) Sift and sort, don't beg and convince - you are looking for one person, not THAT one particular person. The person who is supposed to work with you will reveal themselves. Remember not everyone you call is what you are looking for. Here is what I am looking for: Desire, Energy, Respectful, Like them, communicate, $100k+. Don't be afraid the ones who don't have the traits you are looking for to be let go.
