Should the Mets eat $25 million and try to trade Jason Bay? That would make his contract 4 yr $40 million?
I think that Bay will never hit well in Citi Field and this signing was a big mistake.
What about trading Bay to Seattle (near his hometown of Vancouver) where he will probably be more comfortable. The Mets will have to eat $25 million and make his contract 4 yr $40 million so they will get decent players back.
What about Bay to Seattle for a few prospects? Doesn't this deal make sense. Mariners desperately need hitting and in the long run the Mets would be better off cutting their losses and getting a few prospects, which maybe they could flip in a deal for a starting pitcher like Oswalt. Then call up top prospect Fernando Martinez to play LF; he will hit much better than Bay, because you can't be any worse.
Bay isn't going anywhere. It's a quarter of the way through the season and they aren't going to eat his contract. If anything they should trade beltran when he gets back with some prospects and try to get cliff lee. If there is any contract the Mets should eat it is oliver perez. It is not worth paying him 36 mil for 3 years to walk 100 batters in 30 innings.
Nothing is wrong with Bay's knees. he is actually a lot quicker than i thought on the bases and in the field.
