OK, Abreu's Getting 1 Yr...5M...What's Wrong?
So it's not really a player's market at the moment...but 5M for only 1 year...for a lifetime .300 hitter? That's low. Why?
1. He's 3-4 years older than the stated age?
2. He's gotten fatter and more out of shape?
3. Underlying injury?
4. Fielding liability...he can't play in the NL?
Bobby's signing with the Angels...we here on the forum had him valued at about 8M...I said 2 yrs 15M. so what's the problem?
What about Garret Anderson...will he go lower?
The economy is the biggest reason, many players have settled for far less than they were originally expected to get. With the economy being what it is the owners are not willing to overpay for mid-level talent, they will play for a superstar but not for an all-star that is in his mid to late 30's. That is the reason that you see a loto f corner OF's still out there. Burrell took much less than he was asking for to play in Tampa, Dunn is still seeking that contract he wants...and it all ties back to the economy, if the owners do not think they will have the same revenue stream for a couple of years they are not going to be willing to pay 8-10 million when they could give a young kid a chance at 400 grand instead.
