If I signed a contract at the dealership but haven't put down anything or drove off the lot can I break it?
I went yesterday to Jim Reed in Nashville and found a car for 8,000 dollars with my mother. I am 17 years old and needed my mother to co sign for me. I had a trade and they took the title and registrations for my trade without having my car. They told me te price went from 8,000- 1,000 (trade) which was 7,000 plus doc and fees which was an extra 1,000 dollars. So the 7,000 for the car and the 1,000 for the doc and fees. My mother singed a contract and I did not know it was a contract until I came home and thought I could still look around. Is there anyway I can brake out of the contract????? Please help.
Plus my mother signed for a 46 month term but it was only supposed to be for a 32 month term since I am paying 250.00 a month until the full 8,000 dollars is paid. A 46 months term is 11,500 (I think). Is any of this legal???
Only if the contract states that you can cancel it. Most used car dealers do not have a "cancel clause", it's usually only new car dealers. Read the contract. More important, the lesson for you (and your mother) to learn is to read ANY contract BEFORE you sign. The time to ask questions is before you sign. Yeah, her Signature makes it all legal. Not reading a contract is not a defense.
