Were the PIRATES of the early 90's the most CONSISTANTLY DOMINANT team NOT TO REACH the series in 20 years
The PITTSBURGH PIRATES had the best combined complete season records in the early 90's
Not even the 2 time World Champion Toronto Blue Jays or the 2 time Pirate Killers the ATLANTA BRAVES had better overall complete season records in the ERA OF PRE STRIKE 90's
The PIRATES won 3 consecutive National league Eastern Division titles back when making the playoffs REALLY was a HUGE acomplishment! ONLY 4 teams in all the major league could make the playoffs back then
The Pirates posted records of
1990 Eastern Division Title with 95 wins
1991 Eastern Division Title with 98 wins
1992 Eastern Division Title with 96 wins
As I stated that was back when making the playoffs meant you REALLY WERE a Champion
My question is do you think that there has been a MORE CONSISTANT DOMINANT team over a SIGNIFIGANT STRETCH in the last 20 years NOT TO EVEN MAKE the WORLD SERIES?
Although I am a Pirates fan and it might seem somewhat biased, I would have to totally agree with your assessment. The Bucs did totally dominate from 1990 to 1992, yet basically underperformed during the playoffs. Although they were dominant, they peaked too early in their season and did not carry over into the championship playoffs. Although some tend to blame this on manager Jim Leyland, he is not the one that plays on the field. Several players, including stars Barry Bonds and Bobby Bonilla, let their manager and fans down by not performing in the playoffs. They were indeed, a team that played well during the season, but failed to deliver at crunch time.
