Rivercats Game Used
The Oakland A's drew 8,874 fans on Monday. The Sacramento Rivercats (Single A) drew 14,532. See a problem?
Where is the A's attendance? To have sub-10000 fans every game and have last in the league attendance. I don't get it. Even during those playoff years, we were averaging 18000 fans a year. I remember in the 70s, 30000+ used to come. What happened to our fans?
Oakland is not exactly a major sports market. The way Billy Beane runs things is not suited for a smaller city. Oakland doesn't bring in many star free agents (Ben Sheets is NOT a star) and that is what gets fans to come in the beginning. And Beane's Moneyball system means a lot of bad teams as well.
As tough as the truth is, Oakland and baseball just don't mix. I think they should relocate because I know a lot of cities would attract more fans.
