Collection firm froze my money and never warned me for a debt which happened 13 years ago.?
I signed for a Auto Loan the year of 96 in the state of PA, but resided in NY. I used the cars for about 2-3 months before I was temporary incarcerated. The dealership was notified and they got they car back. As of 3/9/09 a collection firm had froze my business and personal joint accounts that me and my girlfriend share which had $7,500 in it at the time, leaving me with a $37,500+ neg balance. however the loan was for $13,000+.
I never was notify by anyone via mail or phone call nor any court paper never was served to me, I had no knowledge of what was about to happen. I live in the state of new york and I would love to know if this collection firm and do what they did legally.
They may have attempted to serve papers and couldn't find you. If they followed the laws and got a judgment they can freeze your accounts. Once they get the amount of the judgment your accounts should be thawed. If you owed 13,000 in 1996 it may have grown to 40K or more.
