The Red Sox just signed Takashi Saito....Thoughts? ?
Another Low risk/high reward move. Another good day in Red Sox Nation.
It's a one-year contract with a club option for 2010. The deal's worth between $1.5 and $2.5MM in 2009, but Saito could earn up to $7MM if he pitches well.
Between him, Penny and Smoltz, they get a lot of potential "upside"...Even if two out of the three struggle, if one exceeds expectations Theo is still going to be called a genius and smartest GM in the room.
I remember I went to a Yankee game against the Angels last year...It was something like 2-1 through six innings and then three Yankee relievers proceeded to give up eight or nine runs. Each time the yanks brought in a new reliever, my buddy looked at his program and said "Who?.....I've never heard of this guy?"
The Yanks recent struggles can be attributed to having no "Plan B." If one of their key guys struggles,there just wasn't anyone behind him to step up.
The Sox recent success can be attributed to having a truckload of guys who seem to step up whenever asked. I'd rather have proven veterans coming back from injury backing up my main guys instead of re-treads from other team's bench players.
PS - as a Dodger fan I'd like to wish "Sammy" Saito nothing but success. "Domo Arigato" friend.
