Torque on a baseball bat?
A baseball player holds a bat at the end of the handle. If the bat is held horizontally, what is the approximate torque due to the force of gravity on the bat, with a pivot point at the batter's hands? Assume that the bat is uniform. Use L for length of the bat, m for mass and g for acceleration due to gravity.
I got the wrong answer. The torque I got was -Lmg/2. Should I have divided L by 2? & I got the negative sign from cos180 because torque=radius(perpendicular)*F

It's important to remember what your answer consists of. Torque is force * length, so the units you used are correct. It's important to remember that F here is the perpendicular force, so if you're not already given it, you'll need a cos in there to account for that, but we are told that the bat is horizontal, and gravity pulls straight down, so no cos's here. Force comes from mg (F=mass * acceleration). Since the bat is uniform, the center of gravity is in the middle of the bat, or L/2, so that is correct as well. The part that you probably got wrong is with the sign.
The magnitude of torque is always positive. The direction is downward (whose sign depends on the coordinate layout of your system).
