Keeper league trade?
I'm in a 13 team keeper league and have the opportunity to make this trade. I'd give Freddy Sanchez($9) and Danny Haren($15) who are both in the first year of a 3 year contract and I'd get Jeter ($25) in the last year of his three year contract. I'm also giving him my next year 1st year minor league draft pick for his 3rd round minor league draft pick (my minor leagues are already stacked so I'm not worried about this). So should I pull the trigger??
Also, my pitching is stacked with Carpenter, Bedard, zito, Garland, Jennings, James.
Jeter's price doesn't matter since he is in the last year of his contract...someone already paid for it. I'm looking at the contracts I have to give up
haven't made up my mind yet. I'm thinking it's too much to give for just one year out of Jeter
Although it's intriguing to get Jeter in a last year of a three year contract, I don't think giving up a batting champ and a future Cy Young Contender is worth giving up for an aging yet consistent SS who just came off a career year. Here's why:
- In the past two seasons, Sanchez manage to improve on every offensive category and although he doesn't have the power, he can still get on base and with Jason Bay and Adam LaRoche batting behind him (projected to bat 3rd), Sanchez will have his opportunity to score runs. He had the skills to become a hitting threat when he was drafted out of Boston, but never really had the playing time with Nomar around back then (his minor league career had a .318 batting average and people should have seen it coming when he hit .306 in the second half of 2005). Now entering his 3rd season as a full-time starter, look for him to have another stellar season with an improve lineup. As an added bonus, he can play 2B, 3B, SS.
-Haren is only 26 and carrying the "ace" role means that he can only get better. His control is not an issue (53 BB in 2005 to 45 BB in 2006) and the K's are climbing (163 K to 176 K). Although he get hit around a lot and manage to average 14 wins in his two full season as a starter (he was acquire in the Mark Mulder trade in 2005), he can blossom into an elite pitcher someday.
The minor league is getting deeper and deeper this year and with SS Brandon Wood, OF Cameron Maybin, and SP Scott Elbert coming next year, I hope you hold your minor league picks for the time being.
